The regular meeting of the President and the Board of
Trustees of the Village of Deerfield was called to order by
the President C. M. Willman at 8:15 P. M. with the following
trustees responding,to the roll call; Cazel, Cole, Crush,
Palmer, Pottenger and Schneider. Absent — None.
The minutes of the regular meeting held August 13, 1940

were read and approved.
The following bills were read by Trustee.Cole and he then made
• a motion that these bills be approved for payment on receipt of
proper funds. Motion seconded by Trustee Crush.
Roll call resulted as follows. Yeas- Trustee Cazel, Cole,
Crush, Palmer, Pottenger and Schneider. Nays- None. Motion
carried.

A motion was made by Trustee Pottenger and seconded by
Trustee Crush that Robert Herrmann be granted permission to
connect to the existing watermain and the sewer system in Wilmot
Road with the.understanding that said connection is to be made
at his,expense' and-under our supervision.
Roll call. Yeas - Trustee Cazel, Cole, Crush, Palmer, Pottenger
and Schneider. Nays- None. Motion carried.
It.was. moved by Trustee dole and seconded.by Trustee Crush
that the salary. of Water Superintendent William D. Johnston be
increased from Fifteen Hundred Dollars (1500.00) per year to
Eighteen Hundred Dollars ( ^1800.00) per year.

carried.
Moved-by Trustee Pottenger and seconded by Trustee Cole that
the Village Board authori2e'Trustee Pottenger and Fire Chief
Uchtman to-act as a committee for the selection of the personnel
of the 'Deerfield Fire Department.
Upon roll call the following vote was taken. Yeas- Trustee
Cazel, Cole, Crush, Palmer, Pottenger and Schneider. Nays- None.
Motion carried.
It was moved by Trustee Crush and duly seconded by Trustee
w Cole that•the fde for a junk dealers license be reduced from
Fifty,Dollarg per year to Fifteen Voll'ars per 'year, and the
licensee shall on any day that he is collecting junk leave iiis
name and license number with the police - department.

A motion was rriade by.Trustee Schneider and seconded by
Trustee Core 'that letters be sent to all persons whose licenses
for '1940 'have `riot been secured, .notifying _them that -if licenses
are not applied for within five _days__they will_ be subject to
arrest.
Roll call resulted as follows. Yeas. Trustee Cazel, Cole,.
Crush, Palmer, Pottenger and Schneider. Nays- _None. Motion
carried.
Moved by Trustee Pottenger_.that_the_appeal of Village
Attorney Olson to the Illinois Liquor Commission with reference
to the issuance of Class D licenses_be_withdrawr�N,
Notion lost for the went of a second.
Motion made by, Trustee Palmer. .that the Village Board
authorize the expenditure of an amount not to exceed $50.00
for legal counsel' for President Willman in .the case of the
appeal to the Illinois Liquor Commission with reference to the
issuance of tavern licenses.
Motion lost for the want of a second.
A motion was mAde by Trustee Cazel and seconded.by Trustee
Crush that the Clerk be instructed--to write to-the Justices of
the Peace and the Police Magistrate requesting that they submit
to the Clerk a report identical- to the- one - submitted to the
Police Committee each month.
Upon roll cal•1 the following vote was - taken. -- Yeas - Trustee
Cazel, Cole, Crush, Palmer ,- Pottenger.and- Schneider. Nays- None.
Motion Carried.,
A resolution requesting a permit from -the Illinois State
Highway Department to tunnel under the pavement on Deerfield
Road, west of Pine Street for the purpose of repairing water
leak was read and it was moved by Trustee Cazel and seconded by
Trustee Crush that the resolution be adopted as read.
noll call resulted as follows. Yeas- All. Nays - None.
Motion carried.
The clerk was instructed-to write to the Park Lawn Builders
requesting that they - -keep premises on which they are erecting a
residence,clear of papers, etc., which may be driven by the wind
.onto the neighboring property.,
A motion was made by Trustee Crush and seconded by Trustee
Cole that Charles Yons, 1116 Osterman Avenue, be granted permission
to excavate in parkway_on Osterman Avenue for the purpose of-
installing pipes for utility wines.
Motion unanimously carried. Those• voting "Aye" being Trustee
Cazel, Cole, Crush, Palmer, Pottenger and Schneider. Those voting
"Nay" being None.
No further business appearing, a motion was made, duly
seconded and carried to adjourn.
