The regular meeting of the President and the -Board
of Trustees of the Village of Deerfield was held on Tuesday
evening, February 13, 1940.
Roll call- Present; Trustee Cazel, Cole, Crush, Palmer,
Pottenger and Schneider.
Absent; President Willman and Clerk Wessling.
'lotion made by Trustee Cazel and seconded by Trustee-
Cole that Trustee Pottenger be appointed to act as President
pro -tem. Ayes- Trustee Cazel, Cole, Crush, Palmer and
Schneider. Nays- None. Motion carried.
Motion made by Trustee Crush and seconded by Trustee RM
Cole that C. J. Turner-be selected as Clerk to act in place
of Chester Wessling who was absent: Ayes- Trustee Cazel,
Cole, Crush, Palmer and Schneider. Nays- None. Motion,
carried.
The minutes of the regular meeting held January 9,
1940 were read and approved.

Moved by Trustee Cole and seconded by Trustee Crush that
these bills be approved for payment on receipt of proper funds.
Upon roll call the following vote was taken. Yeas -
Trustee Cazel, Cole, Crush, Palmer and Schneider. Nays- None.
Motion carried.
The proposed changes in the ordinance regulating the sale
of alcoholic liquor, etc. was discussed and upon motion by
Trustee Schneider, seconded by Trustee Crush, Village Attorney
Olson was instructed to draw up the following changea'in liquor

ordinance; That annual fee for Class A License shall now be
x"150.00; That the annual fee for Class D License shall now
be $600.00; That there be created a new class of licenses
known as Class F Licenses regulating either public or
private golf clubs or courses with an annual fee of $350.00.
Roll call resulted as follows: Yeas- *Trustee Cazel,
Cole, Crush and Schneider. 'Nays- None. Palmer - Not voting.
Motion carried.
A vote of thanks was extended Trusteeej•e and other
• trustees for work done in designing and preparing Decalco-
mania signs used for 1940 Village Vehicle Licenses,
Trustee Cole stated that he wished at this time to
thank Suter Superintendent Johnston for the excellent and
unselfish devotion to duty he exhibited at the time of the
break In the water main in Deerfield Avenue. Mr. Cole.explained
that Mr-. Johnston was on duty for an unbroken period of 29
hours, despite the fact that during the last 16 hours of this
time he suffered severely from an open cut'on his hand which
afterwards required four stitches taken by a surgeon. Upon
motion by Trustee-Cole, seconded by Trustee Crush and carried,
a rising vote of thanks was extended to Mr. Johnston.
A letter from Daniel S. Hunt-was read by Clerk pro -tem
Turner at the request of Trustee Palmer, who moved that the
letter as read be'made 'a part of the minutes.. The motion
which was seconded by Trustee Cazel was lost'by a three to
two count.
On recommendation of Village Attorney Olson who stated
that in his opinion the Village of Deerfield was liable for
assessments erroneously•.levied against the property of Conrad
Uchtman along Park Avenue, it was "moved by Trustee.Cole and
seconded by Trua.tee Schneider that Mr. Uchtman be reimbursed
.-for this expense out of the General Fund.
Upon roll call the following vote'was taken. Yeas -
Trustee Cazel, Cole, Crush, Palmer and Schneider. Nays - None.
• Motion carried.
It was moved by Trustee Palmer and seconded-by Trustee
Cazel that•the Deerfield State Ba.nk'be continued as the
Depository for the funds of Village Collector Florence E. Page
Stryker. -
Motion unanimously carried. Those voting' "Ayell being
Trustee Cazel, Cole, Crush,_Palmer and Schneider. Those voting
"Nay" being None.' -
° It was moved by Trustee'Cazel and seconded by Trustee Cole
that the resolution requesting permission from the Division
of Highways of the State of Illinois to out pavement on State
Aid Route 11, Section Z., in order to repair'an existing water
main be passed. '
Roll call resulted as follows. Yeas- Trustee Cazel, Cole,
Crush, Palmer and Schneider, Nays- None. Motion carried. -
