RESOLUTION NO. R -07 -10
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN ILLINOIS ELEVATOR
SAFETY PROGRAM AGREEMENT WITH THE
OFFICE OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL
WHEREAS, the Elevator Safety and Regulation Act, 225 ILCS 312/1, et seq., authorizes the
Illinois States Fire Marshal to contract with municipalities to issue construction permits and
certificates of operation for elevators and other mechanical conveyances, to inspect elevators and
other mechanical conveyances and to enforce the applicable provisions of the Elevator Safety and
Regulation Act; and,
WHEREAS, there are many hotels, office buildings and multi -story residential structures in
the Village of Deerfield with elevators and other mechanical lifts that serve public conveyances; and,
WHEREAS, the Village has inspected elevators and other mechanical lifts for many years to
enforce safety regulations; and,
WHEREAS, the Village's Director of Building has recommended that the Village enter into
a certain Illinois Elevator Safety Program Agreement, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit
A, to operate a local elevator and mechanical conveyance regulation program in conformance with
the Elevation Safety and Regulation Act and the rules promulgated thereunder; and,
WHEREAS, the corporate authorities of the Village of Deerfield find that it is in the best
interests of the residents of the Village of Deerfield and will further public health, safety and welfare
if the Village to approve and authorize said Elevator Safety Program Agreement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, in
the exercise of its home rule powers, as follows:
SECTION 1: That the Illinois Elevator Safety Program Agreement attached hereto as
Exhibit A is hereby authorized and approved.
SECTION 2: That the Village Manager is authorized and directed to execute said Illinois
Elevator Safety Program Agreement for and on behalf of the Village of Deerfield and to deliver a
completed copy to the Office of the State Fire Marshal on or before July 1, 2007.
SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage
and approval as provided by law.
