WHEREAS, the U.S. House of Representatives is currently
considering H.R. 2684, the appropriations bill for the U.S. Department of
Veterans Affairs (VA);
WHEREAS, the VA, through the VA Options Study, is presently
evaluating the level and types of health care services that should be offered to
local veterans at the North Chicago Medical Center campus; and
WHEREAS, the North Chicago Medical Center campus provides
essential primary health care, mental health, substance abuse treatment, and
other valuable health services to Lake County veterans; and
WHEREAS, the North Chicago Medical Center campus employs
more than 1,100 persons and provides educational opportunties for students
enrolled in the Chicago Medical School; and
WHEREAS, the staff at the North Chicago Medical Center
campus has been invaluable in Lake County community planning efforts to
ensure that the needs of the local homeless veteran population are met; and
WHEREAS, the administration of the North Chicago Medical
Center campus has leased under - utilized space and actively partnered with
community agencies such as the Lake County Health Department and
Connection Resource Services to make the best use of facilities and resources
to meet the needs of the local community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE
PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF
DEERFIELD, LAKE COUNTY, ILLINOIS, strongly support the high quality
services offered by the North Chicago Medical Center campus for veterans in
Lake County, and encourage the continued provision of these programs at the
North Chicago Medical Center campus.
