A RESOLUTION OPPOSING WIDENING OF LAKE COOK ROAD
WHEREAS, the Cook County Highway Department has scheduled Lake Cook
Road, from I -294 to Waukegan Road, for widening in the year 2001; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Deerfield has expressed its opposition over the
years to widening Lake Cook Road from four to six lanes within its corporate limits; and
WHEREAS, neighboring municipalities bordering Lake Cook Road have joined
Deerfield in opposing this project; and
WHEREAS, it is disconcerting that the Cook County Highway Department
continues to advance its plans for widening this roadway when those communities most
impacted by it are adamantly opposed to it; and
WHEREAS, intersection improvements and traffic signal enhancements along
the entire Lake Cook Road corridor should be completed and evaluated before any
consideration is given to additional lanes; and
WHEREAS, other east -west roadways in the area should be improved first to
balance the current traffic demands in southern Lake County and northern Cook County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND
BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK
COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION That the Village of Deerfield remains unalterably opposed to the
ONE: widening of Lake Cook Road from four to six lanes within and
adjacent to its corporate limits.
SECTION That plans for widening Lake Cook Road in 2001 should be
TWO: removed immediately from the Cook County Highway
Department's Five Year Construction Program.

constructed at the earliest possible date.
SECTION That the Village Clerk shall provide a certified copy of this
FIVE: Resolution to the Cook County Board of Commissioners.
