A RESOLUTION REGARDING ELIMINATION OF THE
DEERFIELD TOLL PLAZA
WHEREAS, for the past three years, the Illinois State Toll
Highway Authority has studied improvements to the Deerfield Toll Plaza and
the need to relocate access to the Edens Spur; and
WHEREAS, various alternatives were considered, no one of
which met with the approval of the many public and private organizations
which would be affected by this decision; and
WHEREAS, the Tollway Authority is now recommending the
elimination of the Deerfield Toll Plaza as the best means of providing traffic
congestion relief; and
WHEREAS, a public hearing on this matter was held on August
1st and the Tollway Authority solicited comments on their preferred alternative.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF
DEERFIELD:
SECTION That the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority
ONE: should be complimented for recommending such a
bold initiative in addressing a regional traffic
problem in this area.
SECTION That the concept of eliminating the Deerfield Toll
TWO: Plaza has the full support of the Village of
Deerfield.
SECTION That the proposed improvements must include a
THREE: northbound entrance ramp at Lake Cook Road to
complete the full - interchange contemplated at that
location since 1980 and for which the right -of -way
was acquired by Deerfield in 1986.

SECTION 'That a separate traffic study be conducted of the
FOUR: traffic impact on Deerfield Road of a "free exit" at
that location and, based on the results of that
study, a commitment by the Tollway Authority to
amend its plans to mitigate any problems.
SECTION That the Village Clerk shall provide a certified
FIVE: copy of this Resolution to the Illinois State Toll
Highway Authority and the Cook County Highway
Department.
