A RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE WIDENING OF
LAKE COOK ROAD BETWEEN THE TRI -STATE
TOLLWAY (I -294) AND THE EDENS EXPRESSWAY
WHEREAS, The Village of Deerfield, along with the Village of
Northbrook and the City of Highland Park, has participated in a
Cook County Highway Department Traffic Study of Lake Cook Road
between the Tri -State Tollway (I -294) and the Edens expressway;
and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the study was to determine the
transportation needs of the Lake Cook Road corridor through the
year 2010; and
WHEREAS, said traffic study was the subject of a public
hearing on June 17, 1993 at which time details of the report were
made available for review; and
WHEREAS, the study concludes that it is necessary for Lake
Cook Road to be widened to six lanes in order to accommodate the
projected increase in traffic; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Deerfield wishes to express its
position on the proposal to widen Lake Cook Road:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND THE
BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD:
SECTION The Village of Deerfield opposes the widening of
ONE: Lake Cook Road within its corporate limits.
SECTION The Village of Deerfield reserves the right to
TWO: reconsider its position provided that:
a. The planned improvements at the Lake Cook
Road / Tollway Interchange, including the new
northbound and southbound ramps, are
constructed and operational.
b. Intersection improvements and traffic signal
enhancements along the corridor are fully
implemented.
C. More detailed consideration is given to the
options for connecting Lake Cook Road to the
Edens Spur as a means of diverting through
traffic from a local road to an expressway
designed for such purposes.

d. There is further study of the projected
benefits of traffic reduction through the
"employee trip reduction" component of the
Federal Clean Air Act.
SECTION That the Village Clerk shall provide a certified
THREE copy of this resolution to the Cook County Highway
Department.
