A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE LAKE COUNTY
FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT PURCHASING THORNGATE GOLF COURSE
WHEREAS, the Lake County Forest Preserve District, a municipal corporation, is
authorized under the Illinois Revised Statutes to acquire land for recreational purposes;
and
WHEREAS, the Lake County Forest Preserve District has determined, by Resolution dated
June 15, 1990, that certain property located at the southwest corner of Deerfield and
Saunders Roads is necessary and desirable for forest preserve purposes; and
WHEREAS, said property is commonly referred to as the Thorngate Golf Course; and
WHEREAS, Thorngate Golf Course is located wholly within the limits of the Lake County
Forest Preserve District; and
WHEREAS, the Lake County Forest Preserve District requested that the Village of
Deerfield make a financial contribution in the amount of $2.5 million dollars toward the
acquisition of said property in addition to the,financial contribution to be borne by
Deerfield property owners as a portion of-the-real estate taxes payable to the Lake County
Forest Preserve District; and
WHEREAS, the majority of citizens of the Village of Deerfield who voted on the
November 6, 1990 advisory referendum voted against the imposition of an additional tax
necessary to fund such contribution to the Forest Preserve District; and
WHEREAS, it remains in the best interests of this area of Lake County that the above
property be acquired by the Lake County Forest Preserve District in the same manner as all
prior property acquisitions and retained as a golf course available for use by the general
public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF
DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION That the Village of Deerfield hereby supports the Lake County Forest
ONE: Preserve District's acquisition of Thorngate Golf Course and encourages
said District to consumate the purchase of that property as soon as
possible.
SECTION That the.Village Clerk is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of
TWO: this Resolution to the Lake County Forest Preserve District.
