O-04-67VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS ORDINANCE NO. 0 -04 -67 AN ORDINANCE INCREASING THE NUMBER OF AUTHORIZED PATROL OFFICERS IN THE DEERFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has requested that the number of authorized patrol officers in the Deerfield Police Department be increased from twenty eight (28) patrol officers to twenty nine (29) patrol officers; and, WHEREAS, corporate authorities in the Village of Deerfield have approved the request of the Chief of Police; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, in the exercise of its home rule powers, as follows: SECTION 1: Section 2- 102(b) of Article 9 ( "Police Department ") of Chapter 2 ( "Administration ") of the Municipal Code of the Village of Deerfield be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: The police department shall consist of the chief of police, who shall be ex officio village marshal, eleven (11) sergeants, twenty nine (29) patrol officers, and such other employees as may be provided for from time to time by the president and board of trustees. The chief of police may appoint two (2) of the aforementioned department members as deputy chiefs and six (6) of said department members as commanders in the manner provided in section 2 -105 of this article. (Ord. 0 -03- 09, 3 -17 -2003) SECTION 2: That this Ordinance, and each of its terms, shall be the effective legislative act of a home rule municipality without regard to whether such Ordinance should: (a) contain terms contrary to the provisions of current or subsequent non - preemptive state law; or, (b) legislate in a manner or regarding a matter not delegated to municipalities by state law. It is the intent of the corporate authorities of the Village of Deerfield that to the extent that the terms of this Ordinance should be inconsistent with any non - preemptive state law, this Ordinance shall supersede state law in that regard within its jurisdiction. SECTION 3: That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval as provided by law. PASSED this 15th day of November , 2004.
