A RESOLUTION ENDORSING COMMUTER RAIL SERVICE
ON THE SOO LINE RAILROAD
WHEREAS, the Deerfield commuter parking areas have reached the
saturation point with commuter vehicles; and
WHEREAS, no further space is allocable to this usage without
residential opposition or that of Village businesses which need their
parking areas to support their customers and employees; and
WHEREAS, a high percentage of commuters.who park in(,Deerfleld's
commuter lots reside in areas to the west of Deerfield where there is
presently no commuter rail service:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS,
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION '.'- That-the Village-of Deerfield endorses and
ONE: enthusiastically supports the plan put forth
by the North Suburban Mass Transit District
(NORTRAN) to initiate a commuter rail service on the Soo Line Railroad.
SECTION That Deerfield concurs with.NORTRAN and our
TWO: neighboring communities, both along the Milwaukee
Road and to the west of it that the growing
population of the latter areas and our lack of additional parking areas
makes the Soo Line service crucial to the elimination of residential
and highway automobile congestion.
SECTION That we urge the Commuter Rail Service Board of
THREE: the Regional Transportation Authority and the
Regional Transportation Authority itself to
support and study the proposal and to endorse a favorable conclusion.
