A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AMENDMENTS TO THE
ILLINOIS STATE STATUTES REGARDING
COLLECTION AND DISTRIBUTION'OF.SALES TAX RECEIPTS
WHEREAS, the Illinois Department of Revenue is responsible for the collection
and distribution of the Municipal Retailers Occupation Tax (sales tax); and
WHEREAS, the Department of Revenue deducts a service fee of 2% from the taxes
it collects and transmits the remainder to the respective municipalities; and
WHEREAS, said Department's collection procedures have, on occasion, resulted
in municipalities not receiving the proper amounts allotted by State Statutes;
and
WHEREAS, errors in accounting by said Department have resulted in municipalities
having to reimburse the State for monies improperly credited to a particular community;
and
WHEREAS, said Department does not share sufficiently detailed information for
municipalities to verify the amounts of.sales tax to which they are entitled; and
WHEREAS, municipalities need assurances that they will receive their authorized
share of sales taxes collected by each business within their corporate limits:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE
VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, that:
SECTION The Illinois State Statutes should be amended to require
ONE: the Illinois Department of,Revenue to provide municipalities
with the address of each business within their corporate
limits, listing actual sales tax receipts from that location.
SECTION This Resolution shall be forwarded to Senator David Barkhausen
TWO: and Representative William Peterson, requesting that they
initiate legislation to provide for such amendments.
SECTION This Resolution shall be forwarded to the Illinois Municipal
THREE: League and the Illinois Municipal Finance Officers' Association,
requesting their cooperation and assistance in amending the
sales tax collection and distribution procedures.
