AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 19 -21 OF ARTICLE 1 OF CHAPTER 19
OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD OF 1975
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF
DEERFIELD', LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION That Section 19 -21 entitled "Overhanging signs and awnings pro -
ONE: hibited" of Article 1 of Chapter 19 of the Municipal Code of the
Village of Deerfield of 1975, as amended, be and the same is fur-
ther amended by deleting said section in its entirety and substituting in lieu
thereof the following:
"Section 19 -21 Overhanging signs and awnings. No
person shall erect, construct or maintain any signs,
signboards, rigid canopy or any other structure other
than poles and wires for the transmission of electric
current over any street, alley, sidewalk or other
public way in the Village without having obtained the
requisite permit required therefore, as set forth in
Article 9 of the Zoning Ordinance of the Village of
Deerfield. In addition to the foregoing, the following
requirements must be met as a condition precedent to
maintaining such overhanging sign or awning:
(a) The material which comprises the sign display
surface shall be of a light, porous, fire
resist .O' nature, vented to limit lateral.
forces of wind loading. The material used
to suspend. the display surface shall be non-
conductive messengers, having a tensile
strength of not less than 2,000 pounds and
be equipped with adequate devices to compen-
sate for stretch caused by the .elffects of
wind and gravity.
(b) An overhead banner shall not be attached to
structural members which are not capable of
safely transferring the loads which will be
imposed. Overhead banners shall be attached
to structural members by anchors, bolts,
chains, guys, or rods that will safely
transfer the imposed loads to a structural
member. Wood block or anchorage with woods,
used in connection with screws, shall not be
used for support, anchorage or guying to
masonry or concrete walls. Nails and staples
shall not be used to attach overhead banners.

(c) Attachment to structural members within the
right -of -way shall only be by a method
approved by the Director of Public Works.
(d) A minimum 20 -foot clearance above grade of
pavement shall be required in all cases."
SECTION That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to publish this

SECTION That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
