ORDINANCE NO. 0 -79- 9 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 15 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD OF 1975 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION That Chapter 15 entitled "Morals and Conduct" of the Municipal ONE: Code of Deerfield of 1975, as amended, be and the same is hereby further amended by adding thereto Article 8 "Contributing to the Delinquency of Minors ": "Article 8. Contributing to the Delinquency of Minors. Section 15.65. Contributing to the Delinquency of Minors. (a) Definitions: As used in this Section, the following terms shall have the following meanings: (1) A "Delinquent Child" is any person who prior to his eighteenth birthday has violated or attempted to violate, regardless of where the act occurred, any Federal or State law or municipal ordinance, or who has violated any lawful court order entered pursuant to the Juvenile Court Act, or who has been deemed a "truant" or a "runaway" as defined herein. (2) "Truant" is a person subject to compulsory school attendance and who is absent without valid cause from such attendance for a school day or portion thereof. As used herein, "valid cause" for absence shall illness, death in the immediate family, family emergency, and shall include such other situa- tions beyond the control of the student as determined by the Board of Education in each school district or such other circum- stances which cause reasonable concern to the parent or legal guardian for the safety or health of the student. (3) "Runaway" shall mean any person under the age of eighteen who has absented himself from the control of his or her parent or legal guardian in violation of the curfew hours estab- lished by this Chapter, or who has indicated his or her inten- tion to leave the temporary or permanent control of his or her parent or legal guardian without permission. (b) Offense of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor: A person commits the offense of contributing to the delinquency of a minor when he knowlingly.or willfully causes, aids or encourages any boy or girl to be or become a delinquent minor as defined herein, or who knowingly or will- fully does acts which directly tend to render any such minor so delinquent. (c) Penalty: Any person convicted of any violation of the provision of this Section shall be fined not more than $500.00 for each offense." SECTION That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to publish this TWO: ordinance in pamphlet form. SECTION That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict here - THREE: with are, to the extent of such conflict, hereby repealed. SECTION That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from FOUR: and after its passage, approval and publication, as provided by law.
