O-71-01i ORDINANCE NO. 0- 711-1 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 19.211 OF CHAPTER 19 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD Published in pamphlet form by the Mayor and Board of Trustees this 4th day of January , 197 1 I I ORDINANCE NO. 0- 771 -1 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION.19.211 OF CHAPTER 19 OF THE MUNICIPAL'CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION That Section 19.211 of Chapter 19 of the Municipal ONE: Code of the Village of Deerfield of 1963, as amended, be and the same is hereby further amended by striking said section in its entirety and substituting in lieu thereof the following: "19.211 Dog Bites.) It shall be the duty of the owner of any dog to prevent such dog from biting or attacking any person in the Village, and if a person is bitten by a'dog he shall report the incident to the police department immediately. "Any dog which may unprovokedly bite or attack any person in the Village is hereby declared to be a public nuisance and such dog may be apprehended by a police officer, animal warden, or other per- son charged with'.the enforcement of this article. "If an owner has notice that his dog has bitten any person, it shall be unlawful for such owner to kill such dog, or sell or give such dog away, or to per- mit or allow such dog to be taken beyond the limits of the Village except to a licensed veterinary ..hospital, but it shall be the duty of such owner to immediately report the incident to the police depart- ment and to immediately place such dog in a licensed veterinary hospital where such dog shall be quaran- tined for a period of at least ten days, or upon the request of any police officer, animal warden or other person charged with the enforcement of this article, to deliver such dog to them for such place- ment. The owner shall immediately furnish the police department with the name and location of said hospital and a certificate of a licensed veterinarian stating whether or not such dog shows symptoms of rabies. If, however, a licensed veterinarian is presented evidence that such dog has been inoculated against rabies within the time prescribed by law prior to the biting, such dog shall be confined in the house of its owner or in a manner that will prohibit such dog from biting.any person for a period of ten days unless in the judgment,of said licensed veteri- narian circumstances are such that the dog should be confined elsewhere. At the expiration of the quarantine period, and prior to the release of such dog, the owner shall have the dog examined and shall furnish the police department with another certificate of a licensed veterinarian stating that such dog does not have rabies. All costs of maintaining such dog in a veterinary hospital shall be the obligation and responsibility of the owner and shall be paid by said owner. "In all cases where any dog has bitten a person and is slain or dies within ten days from the time of the bite, it shall be the duty of the person slaying such dog and the owner of such dog to notify the police department and to immediately deliver the head of such dog intact to said department, or cause the same to be done." SECTION That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict TWO: herewith, shall to the extent of such conflict, be hereby repealed. SECTION That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to publish THREE: this Ordinance in pamphlet form. SECTION That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect FOUR: from and after its passage, approval and publication, as provided by law.
