AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 17
OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF DEERFIELD
ENTITLED 'OTHER BUSINESSES" BY
ADDING THERETO A NEW ARTICLE X EN-
TITLED - "DRY CLEANING ESTABLISHMENTS"
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE
VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS:
SECTION Chapter 17 entitled 'Other Businesses"
ONE: of the Municipal Code of the Village of
Deerfield, Illinois 1963 as amended, is
further amended by adding thereto a new Article X entitled
"Dry Cleaning Establishments" to read as follows:
Article X - Dry Cleaning Establishments
17.1001 - License Required. No person, firm
or corporation shall operate or conduct a dry clean -.
ing establishment in this Village without having
first obtained a license therefor. Such license
shall be issued by the President and Board of Trustees,
and may be revoked for violations of the provisions
of this Article or for the violation of any other
applicable provision of this Code.
17.1002. - Application. Application for
such license shall be made in writing to the Village
Manager and shall state therein full information
regarding the location of such intended dry clean-
ing establishment, the type of cleaning solvents
and the type of mechanical equipment or machinery to
be used for dry cleaning, the location of such
equipment or machinery and the storage of such
solvents within the dry cleaning establishment and
the provisions for ventilating the equipment or
machinery and the area or room where located. Every
such application shall be submitted to the Building
Commissioner for his review and approval as to its
compliance with the requirements of Chapter 26,
Flammable Liquids, of this Municipal Code and with the
Standard of the National Board of Fire Underwriters
for Dry Cleaning Plants, as recommended by the National
Fire Protection Association, dated June 1961, published
as Pamphlet NBFU No. 32 and herein adopted by reference.
17.1003 - License Fee and Posting. The annual fee for a dry
cleaner's license shall be:
For establishments with ten or less employees ......... $50.00
For establishments with more than ten employees ....... $75.00
and no license shall be issued except upon the payment of such fee.
Such license shall be posted in a conspicuous place within the
establishment where the dry cleaning is done.
17.1004 - Location of Establishment. No such dry cleaning
establishment shall be located on any lot or parcel of ground or in
any building which is within one hundred feet of the boundary of any
lot or parcel of ground upon which is located a school, church,
theatre, public library, or other place of public assembly.
17.1005 - Regulation. It shall be unlawful for any dry
cleaning establishment to be operated or conducted or for any
building in which a dry cleaning establishment is located to be
maintained in any manner not in compliance with the provisions of
this Article X, the provisions of Chap. 26 of the Municipal Code
and the Standard of the National Board of Fire Underwriters for Dry
Cleaning Plants.
17.1006 - Inspection. It shall be the duty of the Building
Commissioner or other officer designated by the Village Manager to
inspect or cause to be inspected every dry cleaning establishment
at least once every six months to insure that such establishment is
being operated, conducted and maintained in accordance with the pro-
visions of this Article and all other applicable ordinances, rules
and regulations.
17.1007 - Penalty. Any person, firm or corporation violating
any provisions of this Ordinance shall be fined not less than $5.00
nor more than $500.00 for each offense, and a separate offense shall
be deemed committed on each day during or on which a violation occurs
or continues.
SECTION That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to publish this

SECTION That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
THREE: from and after its passage, approval and publication as
provided by law.
17.1003 - License Fee and Posting. The.,,.,
