October 2004 - VOL. 26 NO.6
ANNUAL LEAF PICK-UP PROGRAM
Begins: October 25th Ends: November 18th
Four Pickups: Public Works will make one pass by your house each week. Our crews start at 7:00 a.m. so it is
important that you have leaves ready for pick up the night before your scheduled day (see map).
IMPORTANT! Vacuum hose machines will be used on all routes. Please do not put the leaves in the street.
Leaves should be raked to the parkway as close to the curb as possible, but not into the street. They should be
piled in a long neat row that does not exceed 5 feet in width. Please keep leaves off the sidewalk for pedestrian
safety. Also for safety reasons, leaves should not be placed on the parkway until the night before, your pickup.
Reminders:
• ❖ Don't park on the street the day of your pickup.
We cannot pick up leaves from the parkway
where cars block access.
❖ Materials other than leaves (grass clippings,
sticks, rocks, mud, branches) clog and break
equipment parts. If a pile has any of these
materials in it, it will not be picked up and the
homeowners will have to find other means for
disposal.
❖ Put out as many leaves each week as possible
so that the crews are not overloaded on the last
pickup.
❖ If a crew is able to start in an area before the
scheduled day, they will also return on the
scheduled day.
❖ Rainy weather may delay us, but we will pass
your house four times.
After your final pickup date, all leaves must be
bagged for pick up by the scavenger on the regular
Monday and Tuesday yard waste collection days.
December 13th & 14th are the last yard waste
pickups for this year because that's when the
compost site closes.

WEST DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP
Township Service Keens Seniors Connected — West
Deerfield Township's SeniorCall Service is an on-
going program that provides a daily check on seniors
who are homebound or have limited mobility. Every
business day, Township staff places a call to confirm
that they are doing well and to connect with these
individuals, who appreciate a friendly voice and a brief
phone visit. In the event of a problem or emergency,
the township contacts a neighbor or family member
that the senior has designated for such purposes. This
reassuring connection for seniors is available free of
charge and is confidential. Begun in 1997, this
program has assisted seniors in remaining independent
and has been a referral source for many other needs
including healthcare, assistance with utility bills and
senior transportation. To register for this program, or
for more information, please call Julie Morrison,
Township Supervisor, at (847) 945-0614.
