and dash up to the Village Hall! July FIRST is the deadline, unless you want to pay an
additional 50% (and don't forget to put the stickers on the cars)! •
THANK YOU, BOB YORK!
Everyone knows of Bob York's many years serving on practically every Board, charitable
organization and committee (remember the Post Office effort?) in his unselfish desire
to make Deerfield the wonderful Village it is. We just wanted to thank you again, Bob,
for the twelve years you have just completed as a Village Trustee. Your wit and wisdom
made those Monday nights more enjoyable for all of us! You participated in a lot of
major decisions over the years and we are indeed greatly indebted to you for your
contribution!
MEET TRUSTEE MICHAEL SWARTZ
In April, Michael Swartz was elected to a four year term as
Village Trustee. Mike is a 14 year resident of Deerfield, and
is no stranger to Village government. He was appointed to the
Plan Commission in 1981 and served as Chairman for three years.
Mike is Senior Vice-Presient with Standard Parking Corporation
in Chicago. We welcome Mike to the Village Board.
"COMPLIANCE TICKETS"
The Village recently adopted an ordi-
nance creating a new Compliance Ticket.
Its primary purpose is to administra-
tively process ordinance violations
to gain compliance without the matter
entering the judicial system. The pro-
gram allows an enforcement officer to
issue a ticket payable at the Village
Hall for a minor traffic offense or
Municipal Code violation. The fine
on the ticket is set at $25.00. No
v
Court appearance is required and, if
the offense is a traffic violation,
the incident will not appear on the
driver's record. Anyone indicating a
desire to contest the violation in
Court will be issued a regular citation
returnable to Branch Court in Waukegan.
POLICE OFFICER EXAMINATION
The Deerfield Police Commission will
conduct an exam for police officer
applicants on August 17, 1991. Appli-
cations are available at the Police
Department.

$1.5 MILLION BOND ISSUE
As this issue of D-TALES is being
written, the Village is considering a
$1.5 million General Obligation Bond
Issue in connection with the Village
- Center Tax Increment Financing District.
The principal reason for issuing bonds
is to qualify under Illinois law for
State sales tax revenue that would
otherwise not be rebated to the Village.
This amounts to $737,000 over the life
of the TIF District, and makes the deci-
sion on a bond issue very easy.
The Mayor and Board of Trustees have
pledged that the principal and interest
on the bonds will be paid by means other
than real estate taxes.
SCAVENGER SERVICE
The only change in the scavenger ser-
vice due to the July 4th holiday is:
SATURDAY, July 6th instead of Friday,
July 5th.

July 1991 Happy 4th of July
4TH OF JULY
If you're planning on attending activities (times and events are printed in D-Tales)
Wednesday July 3rd or Thursday July 4th, we would like to remind residents that parking
is always at a premium. To help alleviate parking problems we encourage residents to
walk or ride bicycles to activities.
During the 4th of July parade we often encounter a great deal of congestion at the
intersection of Deerfield road and Waukegan road by people watching the parade. The
parade will cover the length of Deerfield road from Deer Spring park to Waukegan road,
North on Waukegan road to Hazel, and then West on Hazel to Park avenue where it will
disperse. Anywhere along the parade route is a good seat.
always we ask people to be patient with traffic and congestion and to exercise caution
Pedestrians and bicycle riders only create confusion when crossing in the middle of the
block or among parade participants, not to mention that it's dangerous.
One quick reminder about fireworks. Remember that it is against the law to possess
firecrackers, skyrockets, roman candles, or any other fireworks containing any explosive
compound. Fireworks in irresponsible hands can cause injury, fire or property damage.
Someone in possession of fireworks can be ticketed and receive a fine up to $500.
RISKY DRIVING
.' 1984 7^.v M-1-UA g C.,m J Inc
By mid June the police department will begin implementing a Risky Driving Education Program that was initiated by the Village.
The primary objective of the program is to encourage safe and courteous driving by young drivers and to change risky driving
habits through enforcement and education. This program is directed toward young drivers under the age of 21 who operate any
vehicle in a manner which disregards the safety of others or property. If issued a Village Ordinance Compliance Ticket for Risky
Driving, the driver and a parent will be required to attend a Risky Driving Education Program held at the Village hall on the
first Saturday of each month. Officers from the police department will conduct the program in an effort to change poor driving
habits.
VACATION REMINDERS
Are you going on vacation this summer? If you are these are some safety tips that you wont want to forget. `• ` , ' I ','
40en you leave home leave that 'lived in look' behind. Put timers on lights, have someone cut your grass, have mail and
wspapers collected daily or stopped, and tell a trusted neighbor so they can report anything suspicious while you're gone.
While you are on vacation remember not to carry all of your money or travelers checks in one place. Remember that vacation or
resort areas have there share of crime too. Many criminals victimize -unsuspecting tourists because they lower there crime
prevention awareness.
When you park your car for the night take all of your luggage and valuables out of the car, even if it's in the trunk.
