O-19-33-1VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD ORDINANCE NO. 2019- 0-19-33- 1 AN ORDINANCE INCREASING THE NUMBER OF AUTHORIZED PATROL OFFICERS IN THE DEERFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT WHEREAS, the Village of Deerfield is a home rule unit of local government pursuant to the provisions of Article VII, Section 6 of the Illinois Constitution; and WHEREAS, Section 2-102 of the "The Municipal Code of the Village of Deerfield, Illinois, 1975," as amended ("Village Code', provides that the Village Police Department consist of 28 patrol officers; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police recommends that Section 2-102 of the Village Code be amended to authorize the Village Police Department to increase the number of patrol officers to 29 ("Proposed Amendment'; and WHEREAS, the Village Board has determined that it will serve and be in the best interests of the Village and its residents to adopt the Proposed Amendment; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE VILLAGE BOARD OF DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, as follows: SECTION ONE: RECITALS. The foregoing recitals are incorporated into, and made a part of, this Ordinance as findings of the Village Board. SECTION TWO: AMENDMENT TO SECTION 2-102. Pursuant to the Village's home rule authority, Section 2-102, titled "Establishment of Police Department; Personnel," of Article 9, titled "Police Department," of Chapter 2, titled "Administration," of the Title titled, "Administration," of the Village Code is hereby amended further to read as follows: 2-102: Establishment Of Police Department; Personnel: (a) There is hereby created a police department, an administrative department of the village. (b) The police department shall consist of the chief of police, who shall be ex officio village marshal, eleven (11) sergeants, twenty eight (28) twenty nine (29) patrol officers, and such other employees as may be provided for from time to time by the president and board of trustees. The chief of police may appoint two (2) of the aforementioned department members as deputy chiefs and six (6) of said department members as commanders in the manner provided in section 2-105 of this chapter. SECTION THREE: PUBLICATION The Village Clerk is hereby directed to publish this Ordinance in pamphlet form pursuant to the Statutes of the State of Illinois. SECTION FOUR: EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance will be in full force and effect ten days after its passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
