ORDINANCE NO. 2019- 0-19-33
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 2-156 AND 2-158 OF "THE MUNICIPAL
CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, ILLINOIS, 1975," AS AMENDED,
TO ELIMINATE THE SAFETY COMMISSION
WHEREAS, the Village of Deerfield is a home rule unit of local government pursuant
to the provisions of Article VII, Section 6 of the Illinois Constitution; and
WHEREAS, Sections 2-156 and 2-158 of "The Municipal Code of the Village of
Deerfield, Illinois, 1975," as amended ("Village Code'), provide for a seven -member Safety
Commission designed to review traffic -related issues raised by the public and recommend
safety measures to address those issues; and
WHEREAS, the Village has been more effective at addressing safety related issues
directly between Village staff and Village residents; and
WHEREAS, on September 10, 2019, the Village Volunteer Engagement Commission
voted unanimously to recommend elimination of the Village Safety Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Village Board has determined that it will serve and be in the best
interests of the Village and its residents to amend Sections 2-156 and 2-158 of the Village
Code pursuant to this Ordinance;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE VILLAGE BOARD OF
DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, as follows:
SECTION ONE: RECITALS. The foregoing recitals are incorporated into, and
made a part of, this Ordinance as findings of the Village Board.
SECTION TWO: ESTABLISHMENT; NUMBER OF MEMBERS. Pursuant to
the Village's home rule authority, Section 2-156, titled "Establishment; Number of Members,"
of Article 12, titled "Special Purpose Boards and Commissions," of Chapter 2, titled
"Administration," of the Title titled, "Administration," of the Village Code is hereby amended
further to read as follows:
"Sec 2-156. Establishment; Number of Members:
There are hereby established the following special purpose boards and
commissions within the Village:
Appearance Review Commission - 5 members
Community Relations Commission - 7 members
Deerfield Cable and Telecommunications Commission - 9 members
Deerfield Cemetery Commission - 3 members
Family Days Commission - 9 members
Fine Arts Commission - 7 members
Safety Commission - 7 members

SECTION THREE: DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS. Pursuant to the Village's
home rule authority, Section 2-158, titled "Duties And Functions," of Article 12, titled
"Special Purpose Boards and Commissions," of Chapter 2, titled "Administration," of
the Title titled, "Administration," of the Village Code is hereby amended further to
read as follows:
"Sec 2-158. Duties And Functions:
(a) The special purpose boards and commissions shall have the duties and
functions set forth below:

SECTION FOUR: PUBLICATION The Village Clerk is hereby directed to publish
this Ordinance in pamphlet form pursuant to the Statutes of the State of Illinois.
SECTION FIVE EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance will be in full force and
effect ten days after its passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
