AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE INSTALLATION
OF SEPTIC TANKS
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE
VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, LAKE COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1. That hereafter all septic tanks or other
similar receptacle for sanitary sewage shall be constructed only
in conformity with and when permitted by the following provisions
of this ordinance.
SECTION 2 - Permit Required: No septic tank or other
similar receptacle for sanitary sewage shall be constructed in
the Village of Deerfield, nor any work in connection therewith
be started unless and until there has been issued to the owner
of the property upon which the septic tank is to be erected a
permit for the erection of the septic tank. Applications for
such permit must be made to the building commissioner on forms
provided. The application shall contain the name of the owner,
the location of the premises involved, number of persons residing
on the premises and a detailed description and scaled plan of
the proposed installation of such tanks, and a survey of the
premises involved. No septic tank shall have connection with
more than a single dwelling of the character permitted in the
zoning district involved. No permit shall be issued for the
construction of a septic tank on any premises where there is a
public sanitary sewer located within 400 feet of any portion of
such premises, and whenever a public sanitary sewer is installed
within 400 feet of any portion of such premises upon which a
septic tank has been installed, the owner of such premises shall
discontinue the use of such septic tank and shall make connection
with such sanitary sewer. Before any permit for constructing a

septic tank may be granted the applicant therefor must first
file with his application an agreement in writing that he or
the then owner of the said premises will promptly disconnect all
connections with such septic tank and make no further use of the
same whenever a public sanitary sewer is installed within 400
feet of any part of the premises in question and will at his own
or the then ownerts own expense connect the sanitary sewer
facilities of the dwelling to such public sanitary sewer.
SECTION 3 - Inspection: A written notice of the com-
pletion of the construction of such tank and the connection there-
with shall be filed at the office of the building commissioner
at least 48 hours, exclusive of Sundays and holidays, before
such tank and connections are covered, and every such tank and
connection shall be left uncovered until it has been inspected
and approved by an inspector from the building commissionerts
office.
SECTION 4 - Fees: A fee of $15.00 shall be paid for
each such permit at the time of procuring its and the fee shall
cover the cost of the inspection provided for.
SECTION 5 - Minimum Disposal Area and Reaulations for
Installation and Construction of Septic Tanks: No septic tank
shall be installed where the premises upon which the dwelling
is to be constructed have a minimum area of less than 40,000
sq. ft. No application for a permit shall be approved unless
in accordance with the University of Illinois Small Homes Council
Circular, Septic Tank Systems, Circular Series, Index Number G5.5.
SECTION 6: At least three copies of the University of
Illinois Small Homes Council Circular, Septic Tank Systems,
Circular Series, Index Number G5.5, in pamphlet form, have been

filed in the office of the Village Clerk for use and examination
by the public at least thirty days prior to the adoption of
this ordinance.
SECTION 7: All ordinances in conflict with this ordi-
nance are hereby repealed.

or handling of flammable or volatile liquids such as are defined or
referred to in this section, without first having secured a permit
therefor. Applications for such permits shall be made to the Village
Clork and shall be accompanied by drawings to scale, showing the location
as well as plans showing the type and nature of installation or alter-
