AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. R -99 -15
WHEREAS, over the years, intergovernmental cooperation between the Village of
Deerfield and the Deerfield Park District has proven beneficial to the community; and
WHEREAS, both the Park District and Village have been working with the Deerfield
Senior Council on the need for a new senior center; and
WHEREAS, the Village has already expressed its support for a new facility and indicated
its willingness to help fund its development in Resolution No. R- 99 -15, and in the first amendment
to Resolution No. R -99 -15 adopted on August 6, 2001; and
WHEREAS, the Park District submitted a revised proposal to the Village dated August 3,
2001 for a one story senior center building at the Brickyards Park, and the Village has since
approved the proposed senior center building at the Brickyards Park site; and
WHEREAS, the Park District advised the Village on July 25, 2002 that it has projected an
increase in the estimated cost of the proposed senior center at Brickyards Park to $5.8 million
dollars due to specific considerations related to the final site chosen for the facility, including
additional site work ($303,301), additional soils - related construction costs ($388,200), additional
building design costs ($67,592) and the addition of an active landfill gas venting system
($400,000), together with a resulting increase in construction contingency costs ($300,000); and
WHEREAS, the Park District has requested that the Village increase the maximum
amount of its contribution to the senior center project provided in Resolution No R- 99 -15, as
amended, to Two Million, Four Hundred Four Thousand, Thirty Six ($2,404,036.00) Dollars to
include fifty percent (50 %) of these additional estimated costs; and
WHEREAS, the corporate authorities of the Village of Deerfield, having determined that
the senior center project is a long standing priority for the residents of the Village of Deerfield and
that sufficient funds are available to fund the Park District's request, is willing to agree to the
increased funding commitment request, provided that the Park District assumes sole responsibility
for any further cost increases for the senior center project;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD:
SECTION ONE: That Village of Deerfield Resolution No. R- 99 -15, as previously
amended, be and the same is hereby further amended as provided herein.
SECTION TWO: That the Village endorses the Senior Council's request for a senior
center and agrees to participate with the Park District in funding, at a 50% level, that part of the
senior center facility dedicated to senior use as now proposed for the northwest corner of
Brickyards Park, provided, however, that the maximum Village contribution to the cost of such
senior center facility shall not exceed Two Million, Four Hundred Four Thousand, Thirty Six
($2,404,036.00) Dollars, and the Park District shall agree to assume any and all additional or
further costs to the extent that the actual cost of the senior center facility should exceed the
current estimated cost of $5.8 million
SECTION THREE: That a copy of this resolution should be forwarded to the Deerfield
Park District and to the Deerfield Senior Council.
