The adjourned meeting of the President =nd Board of Trustees of the
Village of Deerfield was called to order by the President in the Council_ Cbarbers
of the Viii-age Hall_ on Monday, September 17, 1956 at 8:00 P.M. The C1Frk c,21.1_0-d

and that a quorum was present and in attendance at the meeting.
Appointments - President Schneider made the following app-int:iients

Oben Holt, reappointed Term expiring 1962
Lewis Uralton, Sr. Chairman, reappointed Term expiring 1.063
Trustee Clark moved, seconded by Trustee Kelley, that the Board approved these
appointments.
Carried unanimously.
Conditional. Use The ?lan Commission recomrended approval c:7 the
Pre_sbytenian Church Conditional Use requested by the Presbytcr:ian
Church to permit the use of Lot 3, Plat o '.:hc
Town of Deerfield for the construction of buildings for religious and educ-,t:ional_
purposes. Trustee Clark moved, seconded by Trustee Brown, that the Bo!.rd
concur in the recommendation of the Plan Commission, and said Conditional ose
be authorized.

The matter of the requested Conditional tse for the Goodpasturo property
on Deorfield Road for a home for elderly Christian Scientists was discussed at
length. 1�r. Bruce Brown, 665 Brierhill Road, an adjpccnt rrorerty owner, objected
to such a use, stating it would depreciate his property. Mrs. Loarie st,.ted
such use would be contrary to the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance, and other
North -hone vill?aes did not permit such homes. Mrs. Mendell Goodpgst-are and
Mr. Wyatt stated no change in zoning had been requested, • -nd the rttorney "or
the group had agreed to comrly with any conditions set by the Board regarding
nTi -.ber of occupants, driveways, parking facilities, etc. The matter was taken
under advisement by the BofT d.
Authorize Variance The Board of ZoninC Appeals recommended thtit a
L22 _'incanton variance be granted Valenti Builders to permit
the construction of a residence at 1224, .iin.canton
Dive with the 15 ft. side yards required by the terms of the Zoning Ordi .+:rice.
Trustee Clark moved, seconded by Trustee Kelley, that the Board concur in the
recommendation of the Board of Zoning appeals, and the variance be Eranted.
Curried unanimously.
Authorize 11 Variances The Board of Zoning Appeals recommended thn t
Valenti's Briarwoods variances requested by Valenti Builders be
granted to permit the construction of 11 residences
in Briarwoods Subdivision, for which contracts had been signed, under the former
side yard requirements of the Zoning Ordinance, and that the Ordinance be further
amended tc permit the old sidyard reouirment to govern in Subdivisions p-.::ttcd

stated the need for relief was great, since a large financial loss would
result from the undertainty as to whether sales could be made during the Home
Festival from furnished model homes built under the side yard requirements of
the former ordinance. Mr. Walton, Sr., �'hairman, stated the Board of Zoning
Appeals had not been consulted regarding the changes in the Zoning Ordinance,
and knew nothing about such changes until appeals from its provisions were
made. He recommended that favorable action be taken by the Board of Trustees
on Mr. Valenti's appeal. Trustee Clark moved, seconded by Trustee Brown, that
the Board grant variances and authorized the issuance of building permits for the
11 lots for which contracts have been signed, as follows:
Lots 1, 8 and 10 - Block 18
Lots 10, 11 and 13 - Block 17
Lots 2, 3, 5, and 7 - Block 15
Lot 13 - Block 14, all in Briarwoods Subdivision. Adopted by the following
vote:
Ayes: Brown, Clark, Jaeger, Kelley, Meyer, Petesch (6)
Nays: None (0)
Mr. Valenti will furnish plats to the Board showing lots and locations
of houses. Mr. Fleming thanked the Board of Zoning 1ppeals for the prompt,
complete report made to the Board of Trustees.
Residents of the Village requested the Board to take immediate favorable
action of the peitions of Duraclean and others to rezone the property between
County Line Road. and Central Avenue, and Waukegan Road and the Railroad tracks
to a new restricted manufacturing classification. Other residents stated their
opposition to any extension of the manufacturing area. The Brickyard suit
was discussed as having a bearing on the use of land east of the Milwaukee Rail-
road. Mr. Matthews stated he expected the Supreme Court a decision of the Brick-
yard case to be handed down within a few weeks time. The matter of rezoning was
tabled for further consideration.
Sherman Ennexation
Ordinance
An ordinance was presented annexing the following
described territory to the Village of Deerfield:
The East one thousand seven hundred and ninety (1,790) feet of the North
Half of the North Half of the Southeast Quarter (SEA-) of Section Thirty
(30), Township Forty- threeNorth (43N), Range Twelve (12), East of the
Third Principal Meridan, all in Lake County, Illinois.
Mrs. Willard Loarie asked that the record show that citizens had raieed the
question of the inadequate vater supply, and requested that the Board meet with
officials of the City of Highland Park to clarify the water situation before any
property is annexed to the Village. Trustee Clark moved, seconded by Trustee
Meyer, that the Board adopt the Ordinance annexing the above described territory
to the Village. .Adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Brown, Clark, Jaeger, Kelley, Meyer, Petesch (6)
Nays: None (0)
Ordinance Abating Municipal Trustee Kelley moved, seconded by Trustee Petesch,
Building Levy that an ordinance be adopted abating the tax levy
for Municipal Building bonds for the year 1956,
and the Clerk file a certified copy of slid Ordinance with the County Clerk.

Yield Right -of -Way Sign Trustee Petesch moved, seconded by trustee Brown,
Central and Osterman that a "Yield Right -of -Way" sign be erected on
Central Avenue on the Southwest oorner of Elm
Street, as recommended by the Safety Council.
