AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ARTICLE 9.03 -G OF THE
ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD TO
ESTABLISH THE MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE SIZE OF
TEMPORARY BUSINESS GROUND SIGNS
WHEREAS, the Village Center Development Commission has recommended to the Plan
Commission ofthe Village of Deerfield that the temporary business sign regulations in Article 9.03-
G of the Zoning Ordinance of the Village of Deerfield should be amended to include a maximum
allowable size for temporary business ground signs; and
WHEREAS, the Plan Commission of the Village of Deerfield, upon the application of the
Village of Deerfield, held a public hearing on February 28, 2013 to consider a text amendment to
Article 9.03 -G of the Zoning Ordinance of the Village of Deerfield to establish a maximum
allowable size for temporary business ground signs, said hearing conforming in all respects, in both
manner and form, with the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance of the Village of Deerfield; and
WHEREAS, the Plan Commission ofthe Village of Deerfield, after considering the evidence
and supporting materials presented at said hearing, has submitted its written report and findings of
fact to the Board of Trustees ofthe Village of Deerfield recommending that the temporary business
sign regulations in Article 9.03 -G ofthe Zoning Ordinance ofthe Village of Deerfield be amended to
establish a maximum allowable size for temporary business ground signs; and
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Deerfield concur in the
recommendations of the Village Center Development Commission and the Plan Commission and
have determined that it is the best interests of the Village of Deerfield that the text of the Zoning
Ordinance of the Village of Deerfield be amended as provided herein;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, in
the exercise of its home rule powers, as follows:
SECTION 1: That Article 9.03 -G ( "Temporary Business Signs ") of Article 9 ( "Signs ") of
the Zoning Ordinance of the Village of Deerfield, be and the same is hereby amended add a new
Paragraph 2 ( "Maximum Area and Configuration ") reading as follows (the addition is indicated by
underscoring):
9.03 -G Temporary Business Signs, calling attention to a special, unique or limited
activity, service, product or sale of limited duration, as follows:
Number, Area and Height
The permitted number, area, height and construction of temporary business
signs shall be determined by the Director of Building and Zoning with
consideration given to public safety and the signage reasonably necessary and
appropriate for the intended purpose.
2 Maximum Area and Configuration
In no case shall temporary business ground signs exceed two (2) faces, with a
gross surface area not greater than 20 square feet per face, with no length or
width dimension greater than 5 linear feet.
Location
Temporary business signs shall be located only on the lot upon which the
special sale or activity is to occur. Such signs may be located in any required
yard, but shall not extend over any lot line.
4. Special Conditions
a. Timing. Temporary business signs shall be erected and maintained
for a period not to exceed thirty (3) days, at the expiration of which
period the permittee shall immediately remove such temporary sign

b. Limit on Number of Permits. No more than four (4) permits for
temporary signs shall be issued for the same zoning lot in one
calendar year.
SECTION 2: That this Ordinance, and each of its terms, shall be the effective legislative act
of a home rule municipality without regard to whether such Ordinance should: (a) contain terms
contrary to the provisions of current or subsequent non - preemptive state law; or, (b) legislate in a
manner or regarding a matter not delegated to municipalities by state law. It is the intent of the
corporate authorities of the Village of Deerfield that to the extent that the terms of this Ordinance
should be inconsistent with any non - preemptive state law, this Ordinance shall supersede state law in
that regard within its jurisdiction.
SECTION 3: That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage,
approval and publication in pamphlet form as provided by law.
