ORDINANCE NO. 0 -84 -01
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE 9,
SECTIONS 2 -102 AND 2 -105 OF THE MUNICIPAL
CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD OF 1975
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE
VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION That Section 2 -102 entitled "Establishment of Police
ONE: Department; personnel." of Article 9 of the Municipal
Code of the Village of Deerfield of 1975, as amended,
be and the same is further amended by deleting said section in its
entirety and substituting the following:
"Sec. 2 -102. Establishment of Police Department;
personnel.
(a) There is hereby created a Police Department, an
administrative department of the Village.
(b) The Police Department shall consist of the Chief
of Police, who shall be ex- officio Village
Marshal, one (1) Lieutenant, eight (8) Sergeants,
twenty -four (24) Patrolmen, and such other
employees as may be provided for from time to
time by the President and Board of Trustees. The
Chief of Police may appoint two (2) of the
aforementioned Department members as Deputy
Chiefs and six (6) of said Department members as
Commanders in the manner provided in Section
2.105."
SECTION That Section 2 -105 entitled "Appointments and
TWO: promotions" of Article 9 of the Municipal Code of the
Village of Deerfield of 1975, as amended, be and the
same is further amended by deleting said section in its entirety and
substituting the following:
"Section 2 -105. Appointments and promotions.
Appointments to and promotions within the Police
Department, other than to the offices of Chief of
Police, Deputy Chief and Commander shall be made
by the Board of Police Commissioners in the
manner provided by Statute. The Chief of Police
may, from time to time, appoint two (2) members
of the Police Department to serve as Deputy
Chiefs and six (6) members of the Police
Department to serve as Commanders. The Chief
of Police shall have the right to remove any such
member so appointed to the position of Deputy Chief
or Commander and thereafter said member shall re-
tain the rank held prior to appointment as Deputy
Chief or Commander."
SECTION That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
THREE: herewith are, to the extent of such conflict, hereby
repealed.
SECTION That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to publish
FOUR: this Ordinance in pamphlet form.
SECTION That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
FIVE: from and after its passage, approval and publication
as provided by law.
