Deerfield Public Library – Facility Improvement Initiative Update
Mr. Ken Abosch, President of the Deerfield Public Library Board of Directors, provided a
power-point update report concerning the Library facility at 920 Waukegan Road. The
information reviewed included a detailed listing of challenges to library services for Deerfield
residents; a summary description of four service improvement alternatives; an estimate of the
cost of the four improvement alternatives; the process used to seek community input and the
community input received to date about the four improvement alternatives; financial guidance on
the options and independent confirmation of project costs; rationale for the selection of the
preferred alternative (Basic Infrastructure plus Moderate Expansion); benefits of the preferred
alternative; and, next steps to complete community outreach and determine a course of action.
Trustee Oppenheim noted that should a November referendum be needed, a significant amount
of community education would be needed and much good ground work has been done already.
The remainder of the Trustees agreed.
Mayor Rosenthal thanked President Abosch and the other Library Board members and staff
present for their thoughtful approach to the matter and keeping the Village Board advised of their
efforts in this regard.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m. following unanimous approval of the motion to adjourn
made by Trustee Seiden and a second by Trustee Oppenheim.
