RESOLUTION NO. 2022- R-22-33
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A GRANT
TO THE LAKE COUNTY CONVENTION AND VISITOR BUREAU
WHEREAS, Article VII, Section 10 of the 1970 Illinois Constitution authorizes the
Village of Deerfield ("Village's to contract with individuals, associations, and corporations
in any manner not prohibited by law or ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the health of the Deerfield business community is essential to residents
of the Village; and
WHEREAS, the Lake County Convention and Visitor Bureau (`Bureau') supports
the Deerfield business community, including the hotels in the Village, through a variety of
marketing and other programs; and
WHEREAS, each year the Village provides a grant to the Bureau; and
WHEREAS, the Village Board has determined that it is in the best interests of the
Village's business community and its residents to provide the Bureau a grant of $32,500.00;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE BOARD OF
DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, as follows:
SECTION 1: RECITALS. The Village Board hereby adopts the foregoing recitals as
its findings, as if fully set forth herein.
SECTION 2: APPROVAL OF GRANT. The Village Board hereby approves a grant
to the Bureau in the amount of $32,500.00.
SECTION 3: AUTHORIZATION TO EXECUTE GRANT. The Village Board
authorizes and directs the Village President, the Village Manager, the Village Clerk, and the
Village Finance Director to execute and attest, respectively, on behalf of the Village, all
documents necessary to issue the grant approved in Section 2 of this Resolution.
SECTION 4: EFFECTIVE DATE. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval according to law.

Tourism Marketing Partnership ROI
for the Village of Deerfield

Thank you for your yearly investment and support of our on -going hospitality business development program to
help boost the visitor economy of Deerfield. Our partnership continues to be crucial to your hotels who are still
recovering from the pandemic and just starting to welcome back business travelers. I have outlined below the
initiatives we have provided during the pandemic to support Deerfield and your hotels.
Visit Lake County Website for trip planning
Our website is a rich resource for travelers and residents - providing descriptions, photos, videos and blogs about
Lake County attractions and events. The Village of Deerfield is highlighted in our community section with links to
26 local establishments including hotels, restaurants. the Deerfield Park District and the Deerfield Area Historical
Society. In our Special Offers section, we feature hotel packages at Hyatt Deerfield, Embassy Suites, Courtyard
Deerfield, Residence Inn and Marriott Suites Deerfield.
Direct Support for Deerfield Hotels
Our Hotel Recovery Task Force continues to guide our sales and marketing strategies as we come out of the
pandemic. Representatives from Hyatt Deerfield, Embassy Suites and Marriott Suites participate in the sessions.
We have implemented a number of strategies to reach out to customers as they start planning meetings and
training programs again. Activity has been steadily building. In the past 12 months our team has referred 61
groups to Deerfield hotels for future business with a value of $3.6 million. We worked with hockey and soccer
sports tournament directors who used 1,852 hotel rooms at Deerfield hotels in 2021. We also promoted Deerfield
in a suggested itinerary for tour groups. Below is a sample from the Lake County itinerary:

Visitors Map Guide to encourage travel
We annually publish a visitors map guide to encourage visitors to explore Lake County. Visitors can download the
guide from our website, plus 50,000 copies are distributed at our Lake Forest/1-94 Tollway Oasis kiosk, Illinois
Welcome Centers and other tourism outlets.
Publicity for Local Events
Residents and visitors frequently check our calendar of events for local activities, especially for families. We listed
28 events in Deerfield on our website many sponsored by the Deerfield Park District including numerous
Halloween and Trick or Treat events, Deerfield's Tree Lighting and more. Events are publicized through our social
media channels, weekly Daily Herald Weekend Watch column and appearances on WXLC Radio.
Social Media/Digital Marketing
We are very active on social media platforms and promote community events and businesses through Facebook
(60,679 followers), Twitter (7,311 followers) and Instagram (5.172 followers). We mentioned Deerfield events and
businesses 58 times in Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Linkedln posts plus we tagged the Village of Deerfield
79 times in social media posts in the past 12 months.
We also write two to three blogs weekly on Top Weekend Events in Lake County. Deerfield events and businesses
were mentioned 28 times in our blogs the past 12 months including blogs on Top Things to Do This Weekend, Fall
Festival Guide, Top Halloween Events, Top Holiday Activities, Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, Shop
Local, Summer Fun Guide and more. Below are some sample social media posts featuring Deerfield events and
businesses.

Lake County Restaurant Week, April 1-10, 2022
We hosted our 7th Annual Lake County Restaurant Week April 1-10, 2022 to showcase dining experiences and
encourage residents and visitors to support local restaurants and their workers. The campaign included digital
posts, Broadcast and streaming radio, YouTube videos, Daily Herald and Chicago Tribune digital and print ads and
inserts, plus we produced postcards, coasters, blogs and native ads.
We created a dedicated section on our website which featured participating
restaurants and their special menus. Bobby's Deerfield, Cadwell's Grille, Jaxx
Bistro, and Parkway Grill participated. We implemented a mobile platform to
encourage diners to "Check -In" at venues to register to win prizes. During
Restaurant Week we scheduled a series of Facebook Live sessions to create
buzz. Hannah B., a radio personality from WXLC, hosted a Facebook Live
session at Bobby's Deerfield.
Partnership/Funding
As the certified Destination Marketing Organization for the county, we are awarded a state tourism grant
annually. The grant funds are earmarked for sales and marketing initiatives to boost tourism, and must be
matched by local partners. We appreciate your recognition of the importance of our partnership in supporting
your hospitality community, especially the full -service hotels during the recovery.
Your annual investment for 2022 is $32,500 which is leveraged with other Lake County communities for a cost-
effective regional approach to attracting visitors. The commitment of all partners allows us to provide the best
services and support to our community members and business partners. These contributions also help ensure
Visit Lake County receives its appropriate share of the funds available through the Illinois tourism grant program.
We are grateful that Andrew Lichterman continues to serve as your representative on our Board of Directors. We
know your hotels appreciate our marketing initiatives and recruitment of group business to increase occupancies.
Local restaurants will also see a boost as business travelers and meetings return. We are committed to helping
Deerfield rebuild your hotel business and tourism economy.
