AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE VIII OF CHAPTER 17
(REGULATING AND LICENSING TAXICABS)
OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE VILLAGE OF DEERFIELD, LAKE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION That Sub - Article 2 of Article VIII of Chapter 17
ONE: of the Municipal Code of Deerfield of 1963, as
amended, be and the same is hereby further amended by adding a new
Section 17.802.5 as follows:'
Section 17.802.5: Taximeter Required. All
taxicabs operated under the authority of this ordinance
shall be equipped with taximeters fastened in front of
the passengers, visible to them at all times day and
night; and the face of the,taximeter shall be illuminated
when required in order to be visible to the passenger.
Said taximeter shall be operated mechanically by a
mechanism of standard design and construction, driven
either from the transmission or from one of the front
wheels by a flexible and permanently attached driving
mechanism. Meters shall be sealed at all points and
connections which, if manipulated, would affect their
correct reading and recording. Each taximeter shall
have thereon a flag to denote when the vehicle is
employed and when it is not employed; and it shall be
the duty of the driver to throw the flag of such taxi-
meter into a non - recording position at the termination
of each trip. Each meter shall be calibrated in accord-
ance with a fare rate not exceeding the maximum herein-
after established. The said taximeters shall be subject
to inspection from time to time by the Police Department.
Any inspector or other officer of said department is
hereby authorized either on complaint of any person or
without such complaint, to inspect any meter and, upon
discovery of any inaccuracy therein, to notify the person
operating said taxicab to cease operation. Thereupon,
said taxicab shall remain inoperative until the taximeter
is repaired and in the required working condition.
SECTION That Section 17.803.1 of Sub - Article 3 of
TWO: Article VIII of Chapter 17 of the Municipal Code
of Deerfield of 1963, as amended, be and the same is hereby further
amended by striking said Section in its entirety and substituting in
lieu thereof the following:
Section 17.803.1: Rates of Fare - Rate Card Required.
No owner or driver of a taxicab shall charge a greater sum
for the use of a taxicab than in accordance with the follow-
ing rates:
For the first 1/2 mile or fraction thereof, for
one person.... . ......... .. .... .........55 cents
For each succeeding 1/6 mile or fraction thereof.....10 cents
For each additional passenger (excluding
children under 12 years of age) ................10 cents
Waiting time ................ ......................$6.00 /hr.
Waiting time shall include the time.when the taxicab
is not in motion, beginning with the arrival at the place
to which it had been called, or the time consumed while
standing at the direction of the passenger, but no charge
shall be made for time lost for inefficiency of the
taxicab or its operator, or time consumed by premature
reponse to a call
SECTION That Subsection (a) of Section 17.805.2 of
THREE: Sub- Article 5 of Article VIII of Chapter 17
of the Municipal Code of Deerfield of 1963, as amended, be and
the same is hereby further amended by striking from said Subsection
(a) the words "twenty -one years" and substituting in lieu thereof
the word "eighteen."
SECTION That Subsection (f) of Section 17.805.2 of
FOUR: Sub - Article 5 of Article VIII of Chapter 17
of the Muni is pal Code of Deerfield of 1963, as amended, be and
the same is hereby further amended by striking from said Subsection
(f) the word "Chauffeur's" and substituting in lieu thereof the
word "Driver's."
SECTION That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in
FIVE: conflict herewith are, to the extent of such
conflict, hereby repealed.
SECTION That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to
SIX: publish this Ordinance in pamphlet .form.
SECTION That this Ordinance shall be in full force and
SEVEN: effect from and after its passage, approval and
publication as provided by law.
