HYDRANT FLUSHING
Beginning in May, Public Works will flush all
hydrants in the Village to make sure they are in
good working order in case of emergencies. You
will receive a hand -delivered notice before we begin
in your area, but here is some advance information.
Flushing will be done on Tuesdays through Fridays.
DO NOT do laundry on those days between 7:30
a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Hydrant flushing stirs up rust
and you don't want that in your washer. Also, if
there is any discoloration in your faucet water, let it
run for a few minutes and it will clear up.
MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
Our American Legion Post will conduct its annual
Memorial Day program and parade on Monday, May
27th. It will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Jewett Park,
followed by a parade along Waukegan Road to the
cemetery. There will also be musical entertainment
in the Village Plaza before and after the parade.

Operation Alert
History tells us that communities
experience critical incidents that
require the immediate notifica-
tion of the general public.
An example is the loss of water
pressure in the water distribution
system requiring the issuance of
an order to boil drinking water. .
When these incidents occur, the
Village immediately notifies tele-
vision and radio stations and our
own local cable operator request-
ing the broadcasting of emer-
gency information. We are lim-
ited in our ability to personally
notify citizens because Police
Department and Public Works
personnel tend to be occupied at
the scene of the incident.
At the present time we have no
way of ensuring that notification
has been made to each of Deer -
field's citizens. The Operation
Alert Card is an attempt to meet
this important need.
Here's how the system works. --
Each year, residents will receive
an Operation Alert Card in a
D'Tales mailing. When a home
owner hears or sees an emer-
gency broadcast, they are di-
rected to read the instructions on
the back of the card and then to
Operation Alert Card
display it on a front window or
storm door. The back of the card
will provide instructions on
where to obtain additional infor-
mation. Placing of the card
where it can be observed, will in-
form emergency personnel that
the resident has been alerted to
the incident.
Additionally, the Operation Alert
Card asks residents to contact the
neighbors on either side of their
property. We certainly encourage
residents to call additional neigh-
bors in the community if they
wish. Advise your neighbor of
the emergency and requests that
they post the Operation Alert
Card and follow the instructions
on the back. As you can see, our
attempt is to use each citizen as
an emergency notification re-
source.
The Village is continuing in its
efforts to find ways to make
proper notification to the public
during emergency situations. We
wish to thank each of you in ad-
vance for cooperating with this
emergency notification program.
The following radio and televi-
sion stations are designated our
emergency broadcast providers:
Radio station WMAQ AM - 670
has been designated as the pri-
mary Emergency Broadcast Sta-
tion for Lake County. Radio sta-
tion WKRS AM - 1220 and
WXLC FM - 102.3 are the back-
up Emergency Broadcast Sta-
tions.
Some other ways that you can
obtain information in an emer-
gency are:
Cable television channel 3.
The Village can update informa-
tion and provide additional in-
structions to keep residents in-
formed.
Other radio stations such as
WGN AM - 720, and WBBM
AM - 780.
